Tutorial: How to Load an Article on a WordPress Website #
WordPress is one of the most popular content management systems (CMS) used for creating and managing websites. Loading an article (or a post) on WordPress is straightforward, and this guide will walk you through the process step by step.
Step 1: Log in to Your WordPress Dashboard #
- Open your web browser and go to your WordPress website.
- Add
/wp-admin
to the end of your website URL. For example:www.yourwebsite.com/wp-admin
. - Enter your username and password, then click “Log In.”
Step 2: Navigate to the Posts Section #
- Once you’re logged in, you’ll be on the WordPress Dashboard.
- In the left-hand menu, hover over or click on “Posts.”
- Click “Add New” to create a new post.
Step 3: Create Your Article #
- Add a Title: At the top of the page, you’ll see a field that says “Add Title.” Enter the title of your article here.
- Write or Paste Your Content:
- Below the title, you’ll see a content editor. You can start writing your article directly in this editor.
- If you’ve already written the article elsewhere (like in a Word document), you can copy and paste the content into the editor.
- Format Your Article:
- Use the formatting tools in the editor to add headings, bold text, italics, links, lists, and more.
- To add headings, select the text you want to make a heading, then choose the appropriate heading level (H1, H2, H3, etc.) from the dropdown menu in the editor.
- To add links, highlight the text you want to turn into a link, click the link icon in the editor, and paste the URL.
- Add Media (Optional):
- To add images or videos, click on the “+” button or “Add Media” above the editor.
- Upload the image/video from your computer or select one from your Media Library.
- Once added, you can adjust the alignment, size, and other settings of the media.
Step 4: Configure Post Settings #
- Categories and Tags:
- On the right side of the editor, you’ll see options to select categories and add tags to your post.
- Categories are broad topics that organize your content, while tags are more specific topics related to your article.
- Featured Image:
- Scroll down on the right-hand side until you see the “Featured Image” option.
- Click “Set featured image,” upload an image, or select one from your Media Library. The featured image is often displayed at the top of your article or in previews on your site.
- Excerpt (Optional):
- You can add a short summary of your article in the “Excerpt” field, which might appear in search results or blog listings.
- Discussion Settings:
- Decide whether to allow comments on this post by checking or unchecking the “Allow Comments” option under the “Discussion” section.
Step 5: Preview and Publish #
- Preview Your Article:
- Before publishing, click the “Preview” button at the top of the page to see how your article will look on the website.
- Publish:
- If everything looks good, click the “Publish” button on the right-hand side.
- If you’re not ready to publish yet, you can click “Save Draft” to save your work or “Schedule” to publish it at a later date.
Step 6: View Your Published Article #
- After publishing, click the “View Post” link that appears at the top of the editor or go back to the “Posts” section and click on the title of your post to view it live on your website.
