Solly Malatsi was elected as the second deputy federal chairperson of the party at the 2023 federal congress, marking a significant milestone in his longstanding commitment to the Democratic Alliance (DA).
Beginning his journey as a student activist, Malatsi has grown within the party, transitioning from a dedicated staff member to a prominent public representative. He has served as a Member of Parliament since 2014, contributing extensively across various portfolios including Sports and Recreation, Human Settlements, and Communications as the party’s Shadow Minister.
A graduate of the DA’s Young Leaders Programme in its inaugural year of 2007, Malatsi possesses a deep-seated expertise in political communications and media relations. He first assumed the role of the party’s national spokesperson from 2018 to 2020, returning to this pivotal position for a second term in June 2022.
Beyond his parliamentary duties, Malatsi has also held significant spokesperson roles within the Western Cape Provincial Government and the City of Cape Town.
Educationally, Malatsi holds a Bachelor of Administration degree from the University of Limpopo and an Honors Degree in Politics from the University of the Witwatersrand.
In a recent development, President Cyril Ramaphosa appointed Solly Malatsi as the Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, effective June 30, 2024. This appointment underscores Malatsi’s wealth of political experience and his ongoing dedication to advancing the communications sector in South Africa.
