AIP extends heartfelt congratulations to Chris Mcinga, a Gauteng AIP member, for his inspiring leadership in SANEF’s Community Media Digitisation Drive. This programme was celebrated at SANEF’s Council meeting in Durban, just before the Nat Nakasa awards ceremony. The Digitisation Drive is designed to empower community media organisations across South Africa by implementing a robust digital strategy. Thanks to this initiative, 15 community media partners gained new tools and platforms to improve their content creation and distribution, helping them adapt to the shift from traditional formats like print and radio to digital platforms where audiences now engage.
A core objective of the drive was to support independently owned community publishers and broadcasters in this transition, providing them with essential technology and training. To ensure ongoing support for the community media industry’s digitisation efforts, Mcinga has launched Community Support Services, a shared services company. In addition, Mcinga is seeking funding for the second phase of the project, aiming to support at least 30 more community publishers and broadcasters.
Mcinga is also the co-founder of MeD8, a media consultancy offering a wide range of services, including advertising, marketing, publishing, and consulting. He is the publisher of the online magazine Student Living South Africa.
